Top Things To Do in Khasab, Oman

Separated from the mainland Oman on the tip of the Arabian peninsula facing the Strait of Hormuz lies the rustic beauty of Musandam region, where undeniably the hidden treasure of Khasab draws tourists and explorers alike. This place is a favorite hangout for weekenders looking for nature and to experience solitude without the hustle and bustle of the big city. Whether you are an adventure seeker, vacationer or a visitor, Khasab is the right place for your next getaway from the UAE without breaking the wallet.

There could be several interesting activities to do for a day or two but the below lists are my best. Here are the top things to do in Khasab, Oman.

Dhow Cruise along beautiful Fjords

Enjoy an unforgettable experience cruising through “Fjords of Musandam” by a traditionally made Omani dhow decorated with the local touch to project Omani’s culture and style. Feasts your eyes on the striking landscape and breathtaking scenery. Indulge in the local delicacies included in the package and swim and snorkel in the turquoise waters; kayaking is a better option too. Praise the sea if there are dolphins playing and turtles along the way.

Mountain Safari to the top of Jebel Al Harim

If the sea is not your cup of tea, riding a 4 x 4 car up to the top of the highest mountain is simply exhilarating. Standing at 2,087 meters above sea level, Jebel Al Harim is the highest peak in the region. Meticulously observe the million years old fossils glued on the rocks as you feel the caress of the fresh mountain breeze. Be wowed by the picturesque viewpoint in Khor Najd, where mountains meet the sea and do random crazy stuff with your group.

Overnight camping at the Sandy Beach

Instead of booking a hotel room for a night, try an overnight camping instead. Sleeping in a tent and waking up to the sounds of the soft waves in the morning is deeply relaxing. Watch the starry sky at night and observe the glowing of sea water as the bio-luminescent plankton occupied it. Go for sunbathing as the sun goes up or arrange a scuba diving in a nearby diving site.

Party around the bonfire till you drop

A local tour group could arrange a campfire at night, request if there is none. Booze are allowed but make sure to be clever enough to hide and let your guide know so that they can arrange more, hopefully.

Hike and explore the rugged mountains

The best view of the whole place can be seen from the top. Therefore,  hike and explore the mountains and do the next stuff.

Cliff jumping into the sea

Making your way back after the end of the hike is not challenging, instead, jumping down from the cliff into the sea is the easiest shortcut. Although not recommended but probably one of the best ways to do to conquer your fear. Ensure that the water is clear of underneath rocks and deep enough that you won’t even touch the bottom ground. Break a leg!

Do yoga and meditate

Meditation and relaxation come together as a perfect combination. Doing yoga is the best way to do after various activities, so pay at least an hour to do some asanas before heading back to the city.

Those are the top things to do whether crazy or not. And that’s the wrap.

  1. I’ve been thinking about going to Khasab. Reading/seeing this makes me want to go. I was in Muscat recently and saw that this is very far away from the capital. It would make more sense to visit while traveling through the UAE. Non the less great experience!
